So Jonah tried to escape on a boat. G-d sent a giant storm that threatened to sink the boat. To save the sailors, Jonah told them to throw him overboard. They did and the storm ended! Meanwhile Jonah started to drown. So G-d sent a giant whale that swallowed Jonah and kept him safe for three days. Then it released him on the seashore.
Jonah delivered his prophecy to the King of Nineveh. He ordered everyone in his kingdom (even the animals) to fast and to correct themselves. G-d then forgave the people of Ninevah for their misdeeds. So may He forgive us!

On Yom Kippur, we read the story of Jonah. Jonah was a prophet. G-d told Jonah to command the people of Nineveh to correct their ways or be punished. Jonah didn't want to deliver the message, because he was afraid that the people of Ninveh who did teshuvah (mended their ways) would make the Jews who still had not done teshuvah look bad!
