"Why is he doing this?" the Baal Shem Tov asked the innkeeper.
"I have three chances to pay the year's rent. If I don't, I'll be thrown into jail."
Finally, he told his guests, "I must visit the landlord now."
"What about the money?" asked the Baal Shem Tov.
"I trust in G-d," the innkeeper answered.
Slowly, the innkeeper walked down the road. Suddenly, a wagon-driver stopped him. The two men talked. The wagon-driver left, but then returned to the innkeeper, and they talked some more.
When the wagon-driver reached the inn, the Baal Shem Tov asked, "What happened?"
"I tried to buy the innkeeper's whiskey, but we couldn't settle on a price. So I left. Then I decided to pay what he asked, so I went back and gave him the money."
The Baal Shem Tov smiled. "This teaches us about one of the most powerful things in the world!"
"The power of whiskey?" the wagon-driver asked.
"Something even stronger!" the Baal Shem Tov replied. "The power of trust in G-d!"
In G-d We Trust!
Gimme Shelter!

Before long, the policeman came again. But the innkeeper didn't move.
